The Fruit & Spice Park is the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the United States. The unique 37-acre public facility is owned and operated by the Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Department. Located in South Florida. The Park's tropical climate can be found nowhere else in the continental U.S. and hosts over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, and nuts, and other commercially important plant specimens from around the world. The Park showcases 150 varieties of mango, 75 varieties of bananas, 70 bamboo varieties, and numerous other exotic edibles. Visitors are invited to munch at our tasting counter inside our Park Store.

Redland Summer Fruit Festival
June 20 & 21 from 10 am to 5 pm
Admission $7; (Children under 11 are free)
This annual event showcases local agriculture and tropical fruit plants. Vendor booths featuring local wines, yummy foods, and rare fruit samplings. Sponsored by the Fruit and Spice Park.


June 20
Lychee & Longan Workshop
1-3pm. Fee $25, Chris Rollins
This class will cover how to grow and use lychee and longans.  It will be help during the Redland Summer Fruit Festival.  Participants can sample lychee and longan products and buy fresh lychees in the Festival after the class. Lychee and longan trees will be available for purchase.

June 27
Wine Making with Tropical Fruits
10-12pm. Fee $25, Charles Lore
This workshop will be taught by long time home wine maker Mr. Charles Lore.  You will learn to use our abundant local fruit to produce your own wine.  Mr. Lore will show practicable techniques, share recipes and provide sources for wine making equipment.  You will sample of Mr. Lore’s wine.  Participants have to option of visiting the Schnebly Winery for wine tasting after the class.  Schnebly Winery is based the Redland Farming Community and uses local tropical fruit to produce a wide variety of excellent wine. 


July 18
Bananas
Fee $25, Don Chafin and Chris Rollins
Discover the dozens of banana and plantain varieties in our community.  Banana history, cultivation, diseases, pests and recipes will be discussed.  Learn how to grow robust healthy plants.  Participants will be allowed to dig a banana sucker from the Park collection to take home.


July 25
Aquaculture Tour
10-1pm. Fee $25, Chris Rollins
Aquaculture in South Florida is sophisticated and quite extensive.  Visit several farms and see this fascinating industry and talk to the farmers.
